World Series Final Game Captures 51M Viewers In the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The thrilling 11-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a total over 50 million spectators in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this is the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent improvement over the previous Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 was seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series recorded 15.71M viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience increases for two straight years.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the complete American viewership was 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent rise over the previous year and the network’s strongest postseason performance after the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
