The Renowned Musician Urges Public Help to Send Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The project aims to send support to Gaza's residents while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
A Chance for Unity and an "Surprise Victory"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The track was produced in the wake of a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the performance was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of artists contributing to Lullaby encompasses a range of prominent voices from the music world. All took part in the earlier concert, which reportedly raised a considerable total for relief efforts.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of producers and composers. The song blends a combination of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.
The group managing the project have clarified that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These proceeds will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a representative explained. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Naturally, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The context in the region was noted for its widespread damage, with a vast majority of infrastructure reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is primarily raising awareness for this issue and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The track is launching on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made ready to watch on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
