The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
