Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the pastel suits that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

His passing follows just weeks after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with looks from model Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in shaping sculptural silhouettes established him as a "genuine original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he began working on outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including a number of outfits for her American tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world laments the passing to a authentic original whose influence on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
