Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his position after a further heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the club's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got significant backing from management,” Slot commented.

“It's important to change things and secure a win obviously but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”

He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”

Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy

Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:

“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”

Recurring Issues and Player Response

The manager expressed regret over familiar failings from his squad in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”

He went on, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a period of this nature with results this poor.”

He concluded, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we will always compete.”

“We will attempt to help the side return to the top, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”

“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
