New Year's Revelers Told to Bundle Up with Wintry Weather Expected Across the UK
Weather experts are saying a chilly beginning to the new year, with wintry precipitation likely across much of the UK. Those celebrating are advised to bundle up as bitterly cold temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.
Celebratory Celebrations Go Ahead In Spite of Forecasts
Edinburgh's famous Hogmanay festivities are set to take place, unlike last year's cancellation. This comes despite yellow warnings for snow over northern Scotland.
"An icy New Year's Eve night for those partying, so warmer clothes will be needed," noted the national forecaster.
Fireworks Under Mostly Clear but Cold Skies
Across the UK, the weather is expected to be suited to fireworks shows, with dry conditions and good visibility. Temperatures are expected to be chilly, meaning extra layers vital, according to forecasters.
To the north, skies will be cloudier, but this is not anticipated to impact visibility for watching fireworks. "We are not looking at low cloud, mist or murk, so you will likely be able to see fireworks, just not stars," remarked one forecaster.
Extensive Advisories for New Year's Day
Heading into Friday, weather warnings have been issued across Northern Ireland and stretching from Wales, over the north-west, the West Midlands and reaching London and the majority of the south-east of England.

- Delays and cancellations are likely on the transport network.
Temperatures Expected to Plummet Even More
Going into the new year, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," commented forecaster Simon Partridge. The weather are forecast to fall even more as snow and gale-force winds are predicted to affect the north of the country.
About 10cm of snow could accumulate to have accumulated in some areas by Friday morning, reaching up to 30cm on the top roads and uplands.
Public Health Alerts Released
In addition, amber cold health alerts are in force for the north-east and north-west of England. These are expected to continue until noon on 5 January, with readings likely to fall to between 3C and 5C.
The health agency said this signified the weather was expected to cause notable consequences across medical and care provision. This includes a potential rise in the fatality numbers among those with health conditions or those in the older age groups.
