Football Expert Sutton Battles Singer Murs in Premier League Predictions

The Gunners' 10-game winning streak came to an end by the Black Cats before the international break, but will the English top division frontrunners recover against north London rivals Tottenham this weekend?

"{I believe like Arsenal are miles ahead of Tottenham at the moment but Spurs boss Thomas Frank will have a plan for this game," remarked soccer expert Chris Sutton.

"Frank will attempt to nullify Arsenal, who have not always been at their scintillating best this campaign - but Mikel Arteta's side usually still manage to win."

The analyst is forecasting results for all 380 Premier League games this term, against artificial intelligence, readers and a range of special visitors.

In the twelfth round, he faces performer Olly Murs, who is a United fan.

The singer's new album, Knees Up, is out on Friday.

Football and Family Life

Olly is a talented footballer as well as a accomplished artist and has been a star of multiple charity football games over time - but he is not planning a serious comeback as a player.

"{I actually played in a charity match the other evening for a friend of mine," he explained. "The team was losing 3-1 when I was substituted in the second half, and they proceeded to win 4-3, so you can read into that what you will!

"I continue to love football, but I injured my knee a few years ago and it even now isn't where I want it to be. I wish I could play more but the uncertainty of the game means it's too dangerous for me in my career to do it properly again.

"Plus I am 41 now, and we are not everyone is Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very content not playing football and I am gearing up for the time that my daughter or son decides to play instead."

Murs and his spouse his partner have a young family, their daughter and their son, and he is prepared to emulate his dad by taking on the role of their manager.

"I will not push football on our children but I've already told Amelia that if they do get the bug for it then I will have to go and get my coaching badges - and I will probably be coaching their weekend soccer team," he added.

"I watched my relatives play a lot, and I really got into it, and I clearly was involved with a football club for a period too.

"My father coached with us when I was a kid, which is likely where I get it from. He managed our team for two or three seasons and had a wonderful time with it. That might be the future for me as well, and I am looking forward to it!"

Premier League Forecasts

Saturday, 22 November

  • Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT

The Blues might have to be patient for their star's comeback from fitness issues but their attack is now stronger with Pedro and Delap both back fit.

In my opinion this fixture will be fairly tight, however. Burnley are well organised and their only home defeats so far have been against the Reds and the Gunners.

It suggests a one-all draw to me, but I am actually going to go with Chelsea to win narrowly for what would be their third consecutive Premier League win in a row.

Sutton's forecast: 1-2

Olly's prediction: The Blues will be too strong. 1-3

AI's prediction: 0-2

Bournemouth have been defeated in their previous couple matches - albeit both of them were on the road - but they got thoroughly beaten by Villa last time out which surprised me.

On the other hand, the Hammers won two in a row before the hiatus and, although both of those games were at home, they do look competitive again.

West Ham's only away victory this campaign came at Nottingham Forest in August, when West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo was previously Forest coach.

So, what exactly do I go with here - will it be West Ham extending their streak under their manager, or the home side bouncing back?

I am going to choose the Cherries, because I believe what happened against Villa was a blip.

The pundit's forecast: 2-0

Olly's prediction: The home team are performing strongly but West Ham have picked up under their boss. 2-2

The algorithm's prediction: 1-1

  • Amex Stadium, 15:00 GMT

The Bees were considered one of the frontrunners for relegation before the season started, but they have surprised a few people under Keith Andrews and are in fine fettle with three in their last four games.

My son advised me to get Bees striker Thiago in my fantasy soccer squad a few weeks ago and, unfortunately, I ignored the advice.

Thiago will likely score again on Saturday but I am still not going to pick him or back Brentford at Amex Stadium.

The Bees have not had much success on the road this term, and Brighton are always strong at home. The visitors will attempt to attack on the break but I think Fabian Hurzeler's side carry much more of a threat.

The analyst's prediction: 2-1

Olly's view: This could be a match where you think there is going to be a lot of scores but it actually turns out to be rather tight. 1-1

AI's prediction: 2-1

  • Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT

It is a massive game for Fulham, who have lost five of their past six games.

Fulham have have plenty of quality in their team but it nonetheless feels like they could be sucked into a relegation fight.

Regarding Sunderland, well they are the unexpected success of the Premier League campaign so far.

Their display in the two-all tie with the Gunners last time out was excellent. We've not witnessed any other team rough up the Gunners like that this season, and they were fully competitive for them.

The sensible thing would be to support the Black Cats here, because they are clearly capable of roughing Fulham up too and, the previous occasion they were in west London, they beat Chelsea at the end of October.

However I am not going to choose that. Instead, I really need to carry on opposing Sunderland with my forecasts. I am claiming a lot of credit for their good outcomes because they clearly love to prove me wrong.

Considering the home side's home form, the only side they have been defeated by is Arsenal. Marco Silva's team will be absolutely desperate for a positive outcome, so I am going to predict they will pick up three much-needed points.

Sutton's prediction: 1-0

The guest's choice: I know Sunderland are performing strongly and also that Fulham are on a bad streak... but Fulham have still been respectable at Craven Cottage this season. 2-0

AI's prediction: 2-0

This is a hard one to call. The Reds have lost seven of their past 10 matches in every tournament, but could they be among the sides who benefit from the {international break|
